Andre Cronje — Chief Technology Officer of Sonic Labs
Sonic Labs is excited to announce that Andre Cronje, director at Sonic Labs, has officially become our new chief technology officer (CTO).
Andre is well known as one of the best software engineers in the blockchain industry, as well as a pioneer in decentralized finance (DeFi). Many projects to this day extensively use the technology he created as the backbone of their applications.
In his new role, Andre will continue leading the design and development of the new Sonic network, especially the new native bridge technology called “Sonic Gateway” that will make it far safer and easier to move assets from other chains, such as from Ethereum to Sonic.
Andre Cronje stated:
“A standard Ethereum L2 needs confirmation on ETH + usual fraud-proof time. On Sonic, as an L1 (more importantly an aBFT L1), only consensus approval is required (sub-second finality) for confirmation. There is also no ‘longest chain rule’ in effect, which eliminates the need for any CEX deposit prompt of ‘waiting on 10 confirmations…’, etc.
With Sonic, only 1 confirmation is required for a ‘finalized’ transaction. Like a true ‘first-class citizen’, Sonic Gateway has a failsafe where users can recover their funds on the chain they bridged from.”
Andre will be replacing outgoing CTO Quan Nguyen, who played a critical role in the development of Sonic's original aBFT technology and was one of the very first hires of Sonic (then known as Fantom) in late 2018. Quan has made an enormous contribution to the organization and growth of the network.
We wish him luck moving forward. Thank you Quan for all your dedication to the growth of the network!
