Native USDC and CCTP V2 Are Coming to Sonic — What You Need to Know

We’re excited for the upcoming upgrade from bridged USDC to native USDC on Sonic, alongside support for CCTP V2. Here’s everything you need to know before the upgrade process begins.
USDC Overview on Sonic
Since launching in December 2024, Sonic has rapidly become the fastest-growing blockchain for the Bridged USDC Standard, with over $480 million in bridged USDC (as of April 29) and over $1 billion in total value locked (TVL) across more than 125 apps.
Sonic has quickly demonstrated the advantages of a unified stablecoin, reducing liquidity fragmentation and creating a consistent foundation for developers and users alike. Today, Bridged USDC Standard represents over 87% of all stablecoin circulation on Sonic, fueling meaningful growth and activity across the ecosystem.
The Shift to Native USDC on Sonic
Now, Sonic is being upgraded to native USDC, a move that delivers seamless benefits to developers, apps, and users. The transition requires no action as bridged USDC (USDC.e) will automatically convert to native USDC (USDC), with no need for code changes or asset swaps.
With this upgrade, Sonic also integrates CCTP V2 and joins a growing network of supported chains, including Avalanche, Base, Ethereum, and Linea. CCTP V2’s burn-and-mint model unlocks fast, secure, and capital-efficient USDC transfers between supported chains, while enhancing smart contract composability.
Key Benefits of Native USDC and CCTP V2
- Regulated1, fully reserved, and redeemable 1:1 for US dollars2
- Institutional on/off-ramps with Circle Mint3 for eligible businesses
- Easy integration into new and existing apps
- Fast, secure, and frictionless cross-chain experiences
How the Upgrade Will Happen
Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of the upgrade process that is expected to take ~1 week to complete.
- Bridging Pause (May 6)
We’ll pause bridging activity for bridged USDC (USDC.e) on the Sonic Gateway between Ethereum and Sonic while settling any pending transactions. Other bridge routes will remain unaffected. - Ownership Transfer and Upgrade
We’ll transfer ownership of the bridged USDC contract on Sonic to Circle, enabling the upgrade to native USDC. - Native USDC and CCTP V2 Launch (~1 Week After Bridge Pause)
Native USDC will go live and Circle will deploy CCTP V2 on Sonic, connecting it to the network of supported blockchains, including (Avalanche, Base, Ethereum, and Linea) for seamless USDC cross-chain transfers.
During this period, bridged USDC (USDC.e) on Sonic will remain fully usable for trading, spending, and swapping. Users can swap USDC.e for any supported asset and also bridge to other chains using third-party bridges.
The existing bridged USDC contract address on the Sonic mainnet will remain the same following the upgrade to native USDC, and it will simply be renamed to:
- Token Name: USDC
- Token Symbol: USDC
- Mainnet Address: 0x29219dd400f2bf60e5a23d13be72b486d4038894
