Native USDC and CCTP V2: Live on Sonic

We’re excited to announce that native USDC and CCTP V2 are now live on Sonic, following the Bridged USDC Standard to native upgrade.

This upgrade increases network safety, improves liquidity, enables seamless cross-chain USDC transfers, unlocks CEX support, and provides institutional-grade on/off-ramps — ushering in a new era of capital-efficient DeFi on Sonic.

Key Benefits

  • Seamless Upgrade to Native
    Bridged USDC has been upgraded in-place to native USDC. With its contract address unchanged, existing integrations remain intact, requiring no action from developers or users.
  • Institutional On/Off-Ramps
    Native USDC is regulated1, fully reserved, and redeemable 1:1 for US dollars2 with Circle Mint3, providing a trusted and scalable foundation for trading, payments, and financial services.
  • Cross-Chain Interoperability
    CCTP V2 enables near-instant USDC transfers across supported blockchains with the ability to automate post-transfer actions via Hooks.
  • Centralized Exchange (CEX) Support
    With native USDC now live on its mainnet, Sonic has enabled centralized exchanges (CEXs) to support the stablecoin for deposits and withdrawals, which occur extremely fast (often within a second). Binance recently integrated USDC on Sonic, with additional CEXs expected to follow soon.

Users can bridge to native USDC on Sonic from any chain using a range of third-party bridges available on MySonic. Please note that Sonic Labs does not guarantee the security of third-party bridges. For a direct and secure experience, the official Sonic Gateway supports 1:1 bridging from Ethereum. 

Developers can dive into Circle’s documentation to begin building with USDC and CCTP V2 to create innovative on-chain apps.

Qualified businesses can access on/off-ramps to convert local fiat currency to USDC on Sonic by applying for a Circle Mint account.1 SMBs and individuals can access USDC on/off-ramps through Circle’s partner network. Visit USDC.com to learn more.

Note: While this is native USDC issued by Circle, the smart contract currently displays the token name as Bridged USDC (Sonic) and the symbol as USDC.e when queried. This will be updated shortly.

1. USDC is issued by regulated affiliates of Circle. A list of Circle’s regulatory authorizations can be found here. 

2. Circle Mint customers are able to redeem USDC directly from Circle. In addition, Circle will redeem all USDC presented to it for redemption in compliance with MiCAR, regardless of whether the holder is a Circle Mint customer. Circle Mint is currently available only to institutions and is not available to individuals.
